ATHENS - Archaeologists in southwestern Greece have found a nearly intact skeleton of an elephant dating back an estimated one million years, the Culture Ministry said. The Elephas antiquus skeleton, including part of the animal‘s tusks, was found in the southwestern Peloponnese, in an area where scientists had previously located large bones. This is not the first time Greek archaeologists have dug up elephant remains. Skeletons of the large mammal have also been found on the eastern Aegean island of Kos, off the coast of Turkey.
