Sangma was briefing reporters after meeting with leaders of the Congress party - which has threatened to withdraw its make-or-break support for the coalition - and leaders of United Front government. Sangma said only one signature is required for the motion to be put forward, but for it to be debated 50 members of parliament must support it. The decision-making Congress Working Committee (CWC) was meeting early on Thursday to decide on continuation of support to the ruling alliance. Congress has demanded the expulsion of the regional Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) from the coalition because it has been linked to Sri Lanka`s Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, who officials believe were behind the 1991 assassination of former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi. The 15-party United Front, in a letter to the Congress party, on Thursday rejected a renewed demand to expel the DMK.
