wned Middle East News Agency (MENA) said. St Catherine‘s Monastery, built on the site where God is said to have spoken to Moses through the burning bush, is one of Egypt‘s major tourist sites. The monastery lies in the shadow of Mount Sinai, where Moses is said to have received the Ten Commandments.
Snow is rare in sunny Egypt, which is hot and dry for much of the year. But temperatures can drop below freezing in the desert, especially at night. Egypt, battered by a six-day bout of cold, wet weather like much of the eastern Mediterranean, has seen the streets of its capital Cairo and second city Alexandria muddied by rain. The Mediterranean ports of Alexandria and al-Dekheila remained closed for a fifth day on Thursday. Fishing activity also ground to a halt in Alexandria this week because of high winds and two to three meter waves, MENA said. It said bad weather had also forced a Kuwaiti aeroplane bound for Alexandria to land in Cairo on Wednesday after it was unable to land in the port city. High winds and sandstorms have disrupted some road traffic as well. Reuters
