In the last lesson, Elena, the HR Manager at OMB Group, was discussing candidates for a job with the company CEO. They finally decided to hire Peter Schmid.

Sally, Elena’s assistant, is calling Peter to offer him the job with OMB Group.

Peter: Hello, Peter speaking.

Sally: Hello, Peter. This is Sally Green from OMB Group. I am really happy to tell you that after careful consideration we would like to offer you the marketing position.

Peter: Thank you very much. That’s excellentnews.

Sally: As we discussed at the interview, we can offer you a starting salary of EUR 1,000 monthly.

Peter: That’s great. Can I take some time to consider the offer? Is it ok to contact you this afternoon with my decision?

Expressing Feelings and Reactions

After adjectives expressing emotion and reaction, you can use a ‘clause’.

We were pleased that we received the invitation.

They were sad when they heard about her illness.

You can also use an infinitive.

We were pleased to receive the invitation.

They were sad to hear about her illness.

An infinitive can be used after adjective + noun to make a comment or judgment.

  • When you dress for the job interview, conservative is best.

  • Do not wear jeans, sweat suits, sneakers or flip flops.

  • Remove body piercing and cover tatoos, if possible.

  • Choose a matching skirt or pantsuit or a button-down shirt and a pair of slacks and wear dress shoes that are polished and neat.
